Prostar PMS335M-120 half-cut cell solar module monocrystalline 335W has solar cells that are cut in half, which improves the solar module’s performance and durability. Traditional 60-cell and 72-cell solar panels will have 120 half-cut cells and 144 half-cut cells, respectively. When solar cells are halved, their current is also halved, so resistive losses are lowered and the solar cells can produce more power.

Prostar PMS335M-120 half-cut cell solar module monocrystalline 335W has higher output, efficiency and ROI due to reduced “Cell To Module” loss, 6% less internal power loss due to shorter ribbon length and 50% higher yield due to better shading response. Half cell modules also have twice less mismatch loss due to double internal strings of cells in compare with conventional monocristalline panels.

Why cut solar cell in half?

Solar cells are cut in half to reduce the cell-to-module losses during assembly. Power loss is generally proportional to the square of the current times resistance.

Half-cut Cell Electrical Losses

Splitting the cell into two halves the current (not the voltage) of the cell, so when you apply this change to the equation the losses are reduced by 75%. The overall panel efficiency increased by 1,5-3% and this results in a reduction in panel heat production.

Split Junction Box

Standard solar panels have one junction box that cables come out of located on the back of the panel near the top. Panels with half cut solar cells can have junction boxes that are split into three, as you can see in this picture of  half cut panel. The middle box is for the middle bypass diode.
