Are you looking to install a solar-powered system with solar inverter work without battery for your home or business? This can be a confusing and complex decision. Please read below before making your decision.

When you first have a solar system installed for your home or business, the first thing you will need is a solar inverter. The inverter is a device that converts DC power to AC power.

The electricity grid and most appliances run on AC power while solar panels produce DC power which can be stored in solar batteries.

As home energy storage system has gained in popularity, a new type of advanced inverter has been developed known as a hybrid inverter, which solar inverter work without battery.

Solar Inverter

Different Types of Solar Inverter

The three main types of inverters include solar inverter, hybrid inverter, and off-grid inverters which are powerful battery chargers. There are two main types of solar installations, on-grid, and off-grid:

On-grid solar inverter work without battery storage

These are the most common and generally the most affordable type of solar systems available that use a simple inverter to convert DC power from the solar panels into AC power that can be directly fed to the grid for use in your home.

Off-grid or Hybrid Solar Installations with battery storage

These systems are more complicated as they involve a combination of solar panels and battery storage.

With these types of installations, multiple inverters are required that include a solar inverter and a sophisticated battery charger to manage the grid connection as well as charging and discharging of batteries, also known as multi-mode inverters.

These advanced interactive inverters are able to integrate solar and battery technology into an all-in-one hybrid solar inverter.

Solar Inverters

There are two types of solar inverters – string and micro-inverters.

  • String Solar Inverters

All over the world string solar inverters are the most common type used due to the simple installation and low cost involved. They come in single-phase and three-phase versions.

  • Micro Solar Inverters

These are very small inverters that attach to the back of a solar panel and can only convert power from one or two panels from DC to AC.

A hybrid inverter combines a solar inverter with a battery inverter into one unit. This is a very economical way to enable load shifting or self-use of energy.

It allows off-peak or solar energy to be stored in a battery for later use during peak times. However, these all-in-one solar generator is not able to function during a power outage such as a black-out.

They also have limited monitoring capabilities and functionality.

If you need a hybrid inverter capable of powering the entire home during a power outage then you will need back-up power from an interactive inverter or UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).

Solar Panel Installation Without Battery Power As A Backup System

A hybrid solar inverter can work without battery. This type of system is attached to solar panels and to the power grid which supplies power from both.

The energy produced by the solar panels is directed to the house for use and they do not need to produce all the electricity to run an entire household as shortfalls can be made up from the power grid.

Advantages of installing solar inverter work without battery backup include:

  • Savings on electricity bills
  • Less costly to install
  • More environmentally friendly
  • Fewer components to maintain

However, a major disadvantage is that it will not provide power during a black-out or power outage. An installation with battery backup includes batteries that allow electricity to be stored for later use.

Different battery banks vary in size and are charged by both the solar panels and the power grid. The advantage is that the lights stay on even during a power outage.

However, it is more costly to install and there are more components to maintain.

If you live in an area where there is a constant, reliable power grid, a solar power installation system without battery backup will be ideal as it will save you money.
